“God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on petrol… God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on.”

OPENING HYMN # 234 Crown Him With Many Crowns
1 Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne:
Hark! how the heav'nly anthem drowns All music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King Thru all eternity.
2 Crown Him the Lord of love: Behold His hands and side -
Rich wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky Can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his wond'ring eye At mysteries so bright.
3 Crown Him the Lord of life: Who triumphed o'er the grave,
Who rose victorious to the strife For those He came to save.
His glories now we sing, Who died and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring And lives that death may die.
4 Crown Him the Lord of heav'n: One with the Father known,
One with the Spirit thru Him given From yonder glorious throne.
To Thee be endless praise, For Thou for us hast died;
Be Thou, O Lord, thru endless days Adored and magnified.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: from the Scots & Second Helvetic Confessions
We believe and confess one God, who can do all things, who is all‑wise, all‑good, all‑just, and all‑merciful. We believe that everything required for our salvation has been offered and given to us in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, our only refuge and true home. We believe that by faith we are united to Christ and share in all his benefits. Christ is our life, our righteousness, and our blessedness; in him we find strength on the journey and joy in God’s presence. We believe that God, by the Holy Spirit, illuminates our minds, renews our wills, and leads us to live in awe and reverence before him, so that, even in the valleys of tears, we may go from strength to strength until we appear before God. Amen.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of everlasting love, we confess that we have been unfaithful in our relationship with you and with one another. At times, we have worshiped other gods: money, power, greed, and convenience. We have served our own self-interest instead of serving you and your people. We have not loved our neighbors as you have commanded, not only neglecting or hurting them, but also acting against our own well-being. Forgive us, gracious God, and bring us back into the fullness of our relationship with you and one another. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
SILENT CONFESSION PRAYERS FOR GOD’S PEOPLE
Old Testament Reading Psalm 84, Page 543
How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. Happy are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; the God of gods will be seen in Zion.
O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than live in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; he bestows favour and honour. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you.
The Word of the Lord, Thanks Be To God
New Testament Reading John 14:1–6, Page,108
‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

HYMN # 358 I am Thine, O Lord
1 I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith, And be closer drawn to Thee.
Refrain: Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2 Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord, By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, And my will be lost in Thine. [Refrain]
3 O, the pure delight of a single hour That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend! [Refrain]
4 There are depths of love that I cannot know Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach Till I rest in peace with Thee. [Refrain]
HOLY COMMUNION
CLOSING HYMN # 382 Be Thou My Vision
1 Be thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art -
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
2 Be thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son,
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
3 Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
4 High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, bright heav'n’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
