1888 – 2023 Celebrating Heritage and Sharing Hope

“Christianity is not the promulgation of a moral discovery. It is addressed only to penitents, only to those who admit disobedience to the known moral law. It offers forgiveness for having broken, and supernatural help towards keeping, that law, and by so doing re-affirms it.” ― C.S. Lewis, Christian Reflections

Special Music "For the Beauty of the Earth" , The Singers in support of Earth Day

Leader: Oh, sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done marvelous things!
People: His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him.
Leader: The LORD has made known His salvation;
People: He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.
Leader: He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel.
People: All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth;
People: break forth into joyous song and sing praises!

OPENING HYMN – # 139 Blue Hymnal

1 Come, Thou Almighty King, Help us Thy name to sing,
Help us to praise: Father, all-glorious, O’er all victorious,
Come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days.

2 Come, Thou Incarnate Word, Gird on Thy mighty sword,
Our prayer attend: Come, and Thy people bless,
And give Thy word success; Spirit of holiness, On us descend.

3 Come, Holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear
In this glad hour: Thou who almighty art,
Now rule in every heart, And ne’er from us depart, Spirit of power.

4 To Thee, great One in Three, The highest praises be,
Hence evermore! Thy sovereign majesty
May we in glory see, And to eternity Love and adore.

Heavenly Father, our pride can make it easy for us to self-righteously be separated from others. We delude ourselves, thinking that we are somehow better. We ignore the needs of our brothers and sisters. We label one another unjustly. We even judge the intentions of those we don’t know. Have mercy upon us, Lord. We confess all this wrong behavior as sin against you and we are deeply sorry. Please forgive us and restore us completely by your mercy in the fullness of your good grace. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights;I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his teaching. The Word of the Lord, Thanks be to God

Do you not know, brothers and sisters—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only during that person’s lifetime? Thus a married woman is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives; but if her husband dies, she is discharged from the law concerning the husband. Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man, she is not an adulteress. In the same way, my friends,[b] you have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God. While we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we are slaves not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.

The Word of the Lord, Thanks be to God

SERMON : Dr. Randy Working “The New Life of God

CALL FOR OFFERING–Congregation sings

  1. be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: Westminster Shorter Catechism, 1647, No. 84-85

Leader: What doth every sin deserve?

People: Every sin deserves God’s wrath and curse, both in this life, and that which is to come.

Leader: What does God require of us that we may escape his wrath and curse due to us for sin?

People: To escape the wrath and curse of God due to us for sin, God requires of us faith in Jesus Christ, repentance unto life, with the diligent use of all the outward means whereby Christ communicates to us the benefits of redemption.

HYMN - #262 Blue Hymnal

1 God of the ages, whose almighty hand
Leads forth in beauty all the starry band
Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,
Our grateful songs before Thy throne arise.

2 Thy love divine hath led us in the past;
In this free land by Thee our lot is cast;
Be Thou our ruler, guardian, guide and stay;
Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.

3 From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense;
Thy true religion in our hearts increase;
Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.

4 Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way,
Lead us from night to never-ending day;
Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,
And glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.

CLOSING HYMN #343 Blue Hymnal

1. Called as Partners in Christ’s Service Called as partners in Christ’s service, Called to ministries of grace,

We respond with deep commitment Fresh new lines of faith to trace.

May we learn the art of sharing, Side by side and friend with friend,

Equal partners in our caring To fulfill God’s chosen end.

2. Christ’s example, Christ’s inspiring, Christ’s clear call to work and worth,

Let us follow, never faltering, Reconciling folk on earth.

Men and women, richer, poorer, All God’s people, young and old,

Blending human skills together Gracious gifts from God unfold.

3. Thus new patterns for Christ’s mission, In a small or global sense,

Help us bear each other’s burdens, Breaking down each wall or fence.

Words of comfort, words of vision, Words of challenge, said with care,

Bring new power and strength for action, Make us colleagues, free and fair.

4. So God grant us for tomorrow Ways to order human life

That surround each person’s sorrow With a calm that conquers strife.

Make us partners in our living, Our compassion to increase,

Messengers of faith, thus giving Hope and confidence and peace.
